What is a Democratic Committee?
Local committees are a resource for any questions about town or county government. Dutchess County’s 22 local Democratic committees help our county Democratic leadership understand the issues and developments facing each town. Local committees encourage and support candidates for town board, supervisor, tax receiver and judges. They also assist with finding candidates for county legislature, county executive, district attorney, state senators, and state assembly.
Members of the Lagrange Democratic Committee are residents of the town’s seven election districts and participate in Dutchess County Democratic Committee meetings and events, representing the Democrats within their respective election districts. Our chairperson serves on the Executive Committee of the DCDC.
What does a Democratic Committee do?
Committees have a voice on party matters and vote for candidates at the county level. Town committee members work with leadership of the county committee to:
- Seek candidates to run for elected office
- Obtain signatures on candidate petitions for primaries and elections
- Canvass and call voters on behalf of Democratic candidates
- Provide opportunities for residents to meet Democratic candidates
- Encourage informed participation in the electoral process
- Work with the county committee to promote democratic candidates and values
